Today was a transfer day from Ligneruil to Aclou - a 225 KM drive to the southwest. We timed it so we would get to Rouen around 11 AM.
The last time we were in Rouen was in 1986. We rented a car and drove to see the famous Cathedral that Monet painted numerous times. Also tried to tour Monet's house, Giveny, but it was closed - bummer. After touring the Cathedral we had a memorable lunch right across the square. At that time the city seemed small and quaint, not the bustling metropolis we negotiated on today's drive. Things have changed since Joan of Arc made her debut burning at the stake here in 1435. More about that later in our stay.
In the heart of town is an indoor mega-mall with our GPS directing us right into the underground parking area. More amazing was that it directed us to the Sortie and on our way to the next destination.
After a casual cup of coffee we scouted out the other food options in the food court then headed to the super sized E' Leclerc market. A great find to gather our groceries for our week in Aclou.
We had Miss Coffee without Miss Cookies.
Too close to lunch.
We have this weird fetish for grocery shopping and this store did not disappoint.
We could have opted for the self scan checkout but was sure we would screw it up and have to redo our entire shop.
Not only are things bigger here, the quality and selection is better than at home.
Walmart take note.
France is noted for their oysters but clams and mussels were also plentiful.
Servez-vous (self serve) fruit and vegetable weigh station.
The English option helps a lot.
Fruits and veggies of every kind.
Too many choices make it hard to decide.
But wait. There is more.
Next up is pate of every kind and style.
Our sales clerk needed a few tries to complete our order.
And the best aisle was wine and spirits.
For me the gin shelf is sparse but for Kim the wine aisles makes her head spin...
With not a familiar label in sight it comes down to einee, meinee, minee, mo.
The bubbly occupies a special aisle and place in Kim's heart.
Heading to the checkout line. Self checkout is out of the question.
Hard to believe that this was a small shop since we carted our leftovers from our last lodgings.
We stowed the groceries in the car and headed back to the food court. Passing on the KFC was a tough decision but the Mandarin dishes looked great and a welcomed change in cuisine.
Arrived at next location at 2 PM. Unloaded the car and fully unpacked by 4 PM in preparation for 5 PM Happy Hour.
Glad to be settled in again for another week.
